Critics say the figures compiled by the central government do not accurately reflect reality as they are based on a system under which evacuees voluntarily register themselves as such with their new municipalities of residence.
The Japanese government fudging numbers?! Who’da thunk it?!
We can see the slightly sinister thinking behind this too - base the numbers on a voluntary registration system knowing that people have been discriminated against for making public their link to the Fukushima area. Therefore obviously the number of evacuees registering will be lower than the actual nu ....
