Grand Jirga threatens to attack police stations if held elders not freed

WANA: A Grand Jirga of elders of Zalikhel Wazir tribes on Saturday announced to raise 3,000 armed lashkar and threatened to attack police stations if the arrested maliks and elders were not realsed forthwith.
Speaking at the Grand Jirga held in Wana, the headquarters of South Waziristan tribal district, Malik Noor Ali Karamzkhel, Malik Sherin Jan, Malik Muhammad Aslam, Malik Mirdil, Malik Gulazi and Malik Jangwali alleged that the district administration and police had miserably failed to maintain law and order.
They said that peaceful environment in South Waziristan district was intentionally being sabotaged at the behest of certain elements, which they termed a shameful act on their part. They termed the arrest of elders illegal and asked the district administration and District Police Officer Shaukat Ali to honour their promises and release the elders.

WANA: For the first time after the merger of erstwhile Fata into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the police arrested 16 prominent elders and Maliks in the ongoing crackdown launched against the Ahmadzai Wazir tribes and put in the lock-up for torching an ambulance and firing on a police party in South Waziristan tribal district on Tuesday.
District Police Officer Shaukat Ali said that the crackdown was going on and the remaining accused would be arrested soon.
He claimed that the maliks and elders were also raising lashkar to torch the home of station house officer of Azam Warsak Police Station, as he had registered cases against them for setting an official ambulance on fire and firing on a police party.
