The Roswell Municipal Landfill is taking measures to slow down the fill rate of the cell currently in use while the city expedites the construction on a new cell.

“We did some topographical surveying in the area and our engineering consultant raised the red flag. The cell’s filing up faster than what we thought and we need to start moving quickly” on the bidding process, he said. ....

City officials discussed those plans during Thursday morning’s Finance Committee meeting with Chairman Jason Perry and committee members Jacob Roebuck and Margaret Kennard. Vice-chair Juan Oropesa was absent.
In the public comments section toward the end of the 30-minute meeting, Perry asked Public Affairs Director Juanita Jennings about the festival, which was canceled last year due to the pandemic.
“Yes, there will be a festival this year,” Jennings said, explaining the event company the city hired to manage the festival, In Depth Events, had a team here late last month. The festival is scheduled for July 2-4, according to the Public Affairs Department. ....

The Spring River Trail rehabilitation will be going back to bid, after the city’s Infrastructure Committee voted to reject the recommended bid at its meeting Monday afternoon.
The vote was made at the request of City Engineer Louis Najar. Committee members Jacob Roebuck, Margaret Kennard and George Peterson voted to reject the $208,501 bid from Constructors Inc. of Carlsbad, the sole bidder for the project. Committee member Savino Sanchez was absent.
“Our budget is tight citywide. This one came significantly over budget, so what we want to do, engineering wants to take another look at it and see how we can pull some items from the bid so we can rebid it,” Najar said. ....
