Congress, like corporate America and the rest of the world, was forced to adopt remote working technologies and other digital collaborative tools a year ago as the coronavirus shut down the global economy. 
Now, as the pace of vaccination across the country picks up and a return to pre-pandemic normal appears increasingly possible, lawmakers and reform advocates are debating whether Congress should keep using the new tech tools even after the pandemic ends.  ....

Strengthening American Democracy by Increasing Legislative Branch Capacity


Dear Chair DeLauro, Chair Leahy, Ranking Member Granger, and Vice Chair Shelby:
On behalf of the undersigned individuals, civil society organizations, and industry groups, we urge you to increase the share of discretionary funding available for the Legislative branch both to address the historically diminished resources available to the Legislative branch and to meet the challenges facing Congress in our current time of crisis. We firmly believe that dedicating resources to build a stronger, more capable Congress is of key importance to our democracy and is necessary for it to fulfill its constitutional responsibilities. Therefore,
we urge you to increase the 302(b) allocation for the legislative branch by 10 percent as you determine spending levels for FY 2022. ....

Former Congressional Staffers Are Saying Thank You to Current Workers

Former Congressional staffers are expressing their support for current employees through an online note project spearheaded by the Congressional Staff Alumni Council. So far, more than 350 former staffers have left notes on the project’s webpage.
Former staffers want to make sure current employees realize their efforts on January 6 did not go unnoticed. “We see ourselves in them,” says Marci Harris, a former Congressional staffer and the CEO and co-founder of POPVOX. “We can imagine what they’re going through. Some of them are the people who were around when we were there, and they’re our friends and colleagues. Others are so young, and they work so hard. They’re the ones whispering in the ears and writing the speeches. They’re not the ones that you hear about, and they’re often forgotten.” ....
