The beginning of the district’s winter break typically serves as a halfway point for us for the school year. Midyear activities have now concluded and students have wrapped up their exams, ready to begin the new semester when they return in January. For our staff, it’s also a good time for us to reflect on what we’ve accomplished during the first half of the school year and to look forward a bit to the exciting things that are in the works for the new year.
One of the most important parts of building and maintaining success for any entity or organization is the ability to solicit and incorporate customer feedback. This aspect can be experienced in some form in our community in almost every business or organization’s front office that we enter. Listening to customers is the best way to learn how things are going, what expectations are being held, and how one can best build stronger relationships with the people they serve.
Howard was appointed to the board to fill a vacancy in 2013 and was then elected to two more terms, the maximum allowed by Colorado law. She was unable to run again, but Denise Chapman, who ran for Howard’s seat with Howard’s endorsement, has received high praise from the longtime school board member.
A ceremony held in the Turner gymnasium included speakers from the Thompson School District, the Colorado Department of Education, The Colorado Education Association, various sponsors and a very excited student body.
