The Bishop’s School Knights and La Jolla High School Vikings will square off May 19 and 28, with one game at each school’s home pool. The rivalry rooted in friendly competition and mutual respect stems, particularly on the girls teams, from players from both schools often playing together on club teams, then against one another in school. Aug. 28, 2019, near the 5200 block of Ogden Street around 10:30 p.m., gunshots rang out. In an alley, 16-year-old Damien Feliz was discovered with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was rushed to a hospital, where he died. ....
Women, People of Color Usher New Political Era in San Diego By Marielena Castellanos It’s a new day for women and people of color in San Diego politics, as newcomers step into elected positions throughout the County. Jill Galvez, who has lived in Northwest Chula Vista for more than 26 years was recently elected to the Chula Vista City Council to represent Council District 2, which has some of the City’s oldest neighborhoods including the historic downtown Chula Vista and the Bayfront. Galvez commented on why she decided to run for office, “Chula Vista is the best place on earth to live, raise a family and retire. I am determined to work hard for our community to make good things happen and make our neighborhoods proud.” ....

On December 12, Charger Steve jumped into his lifted Toyota, flipped on the under-chassis neon lights, and drove to meet his buddies at D’s Ribs & Wings, a block west of Highway 67 in Santee to grab a bite. “We’ve been visiting areas with our vehicles to bring some much-needed foot traffic and a huge morale booster. District spokesperson Manny Rubio said, “For us, attendance isn’t just logging in, attendance means engagement.” He said that means attendance is based on, for example, contact with teachers during office hours, and turning in required assignments. “For us, the fact the attendance rates are what they are, I think is a really big positive for us. It says a lot about what we’re doing for students.” Rubio said the issue of more D and F grades during distance learning is one facing many districts across the county and state.
