Residents Of Five Nursing Homes Received Ineffective Vaccine

(Columbus) - The state says that residents of five Northeast Ohio nursing homes and long-term care facilities who received COVID-19 vaccinations may have to have those shots done again.
Governor Mike DeWine confirmed during his news briefing on Tuesday that Walgreen s provided doses of vaccine that may have been stored at inadequate temperatures, rendering the medicine ineffective. The governor did not say which vaccine was involved.
The affected nursing homes are:
-Maples/Ashtabula County Residential Services Corp.
-Ashtabula Towers
-Six Chimneys, Cleveland
-Willow Park Convalescent Home, Cleveland
Walgreen s will re-vaccinate the people who received the ineffective vaccine. Doctors say that vaccine stored at the wrong temperature will not make a person ill, it will just not be effective. ....

Some patients at five nursing homes in Northeast Ohio will have to repeat their COVID-19 vaccinations after Walgreens informed the state that some doses weren t stored at the right temperature, Gov. Mike DeWine announced Tuesday.
Vaccines were given – and there is no harm to anyone – but these vaccinations will have to be done again, DeWine said.
At issue is the vaccines weren t kept at the appropriate temperature. DeWine said it wasn t the nursing homes fault.
(The vaccines) can be challenging to handle because they require ultra-cold storage until they are ready to handle, explained Ohio s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Bruce Vanderhoof. Otherwise, it can t be relied upon to be effective. ....

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Residents in five Northeast Ohio nursing homes will have to be revaccinated because Walgreens has discovered some of the shots may not have been stored at the proper temperatures, Gov. Mike DeWine said Tuesday.
The residents got shots from Walgreens pharmacists on Monday. When Walgreens noticed the error, which was identified through a quality control procedure, it reached out to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the vaccine manufacturer, said Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff, the Ohio Department of Health medical director. ....
