CHANDIGARH: In a big setback to Congress, Haryana assembly speaker Gian Chand Gupta on Saturday disqualified Kalka MLA Pardeep Chaudhary, just two days after the legislator was convicted in a 2011 rioting case, reports Manvir Saini.
Chaudhary along with 14 others was convicted on Thursday by the court of judicial magistrate in Nalagarh in Himachal’s Solan district for rioting. All of them were sentenced to three-year imprisonment and fined Rs 85,500 each.
The assembly notified the vacancy in Kalka seat and with this the total number of MLAs decreased to 88 in the 90-member House.
