Covid-19: NZ's first mass vaccination event to be held in Auckland at end of July

Hipkins said there is “sufficient” vaccine stock to run the upcoming event without disrupting the wider roll-out plan.
The event is targeted at Manukau Institute of Technology students, staff and families.
Given it is the first mass vaccination event, there will be a “heavy emphasis” on bookings, Hipkins said.
The Vodafone Events Centre in south Auckland is the venue of choice for the country’s first mass vaccination event, which will now run at the end of July after supply issues forced its postponement. (File photo)
Staff expect to vaccinate 5000 people per day at the event.
South Auckland was a “logical choice” for the first mass-scale vaccination event because of the high number of border and MIQ workers and people with underlying conditions among the population, and its proximity to the border. ....

Thousands will be vaccinated at the country’s first
mass vaccination event later this month as part of
protecting one of our most at-risk communities from
COVID-19.
MIT Mass Vaccination will take place over
three days – July 30, July 31 and August 1 – at Vodafone
Events Centre, Manukau and is open to MIT staff, students
and their whānau.
“Students of MIT and their
families have been given a great opportunity to get
vaccinated,” says MIT Student Council president Micah
Sili.
Mass vaccination events have been used
successfully overseas to get large groups of people of all
ages (in the case of the Pfizer vaccine 16 years and over) ....
