CCC vows to raise disaster preparedness at nat'l, local levels

CCC Vice Chairperson and Executive Director Robert Borje made this remark after the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Wednesday warned that "amihan" or the northeast monsoon affecting Luzon could cause possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms. To minimize casualties and loss of property, Borje pointed out that technologies such as early warning devices have helped provide more effective flood forecasting and warning activities. Early warning systems refer to hydrometeorological devices (hydromet) and warning stations installed in selected hazard areas in the country to collect weather risk data to be used in aiding real-time disaster mitigation effor ....

Environmental groups push passage of DDR bill

Various environmental groups have called on the government to implement urgent policy action to address the disaster and climate emergency in the Philippines.
In an online forum Thursday, the University of the Philippines Resilience Institute (UPRI), Greenpeace Philippines, and Local Climate Change Adaptation for Development (LCCAD) reiterated its call for the immediate passage of the Department of Disaster Resilience (DRR) bill.
The groups also partnered with the House of Representatives and Albay Rep. Joey Salceda to amplify the passage of the bill which they said would “ensure that the current and future generations of Filipinos will survive the projected accelerating impacts of climate change and disasters.” ....
