Clara Police Officer was investigating a car burglary suspect in santa clara. The officer was in an unmarked suv and followed the mercedes to sunnyvale. The officer then tried to pull the mercedes over at El Camino Real and wolfe road, got out and walked towards the car. Investigators say the driver of the mercedes used it as a weapon. The vehicle drove toward the officer at a high rate of speed. The officer fearing for his life fired several shots at the vehicle. The suspect was last seen going on wolfe road. Reporter a second officer arrived on scene tried to chase the suspect but lost him. They do not have a good description of that suspect. Lafayette. Sunnyvale police say a car suspect tried to run over a Police Officer and that Police Officer opened fire at 6 30 last night on El Camino Real. An unmarked suv pulled up in front of a White Mercedes sedan that allegedly was stolen in santa clara. An officer from the Santa Clara Police department got out and walked toward the car. The chp did close down the exit ramp about 7 30 tonight. Thats when the chp vehicle pulled off, and burst into flames right on the exit ramp. Chp officers say they dont know what caused the chp vehicle to catch on fire. They say the officer had been traveling east on the bay bridge out of San Francisco when he noticed smoke inside the car back by the trunk. He smelt smoke coming from his vehicle. He pulled off at the Treasure Island exit. Reporter Officials Say a second chp officer responded to help and was injured when the back of the vehicle exploded. There was an explosion coming from the trunk. Some of the debris came and hit one of the officers in the arm and the chest.
