Richland County's Most Wanted edition includes three fugitives


Bobby Priest, 40, was being sought on a charge of illegal conveyance of drugs.
Of the three remaining fugitives, one is new to the weekly list. Stephen Perry, 39, is wanted on a charge of having weapons under disability. He has ties to Mansfield.
Perry is 6 feet, 3 inches and weighs 195 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.
Michael Cochran Jr., 40, is being sought on a domestic violence charge. He has ties to Mansfield.
Cochran is 5-7 and weighs 160 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.
Fontel Bonham, 31, is being sought on a probation violation. His original charges were domestic violence and kidnapping. He has ties to Mansfield. ....

Richland County under flood warning; Black Fork in Shelby monitored

SHELBY - The moment at which the Black Fork Mohican River touches the bottom of Main Street Bridge in Shelby usually spells danger for downtown businesses.
Around 9 p.m. Sunday, the tributary came dangerously close to overflowing onto Main Street after nearly three inches of rain fell over 24 hours, flooding Skiles Field and Black Fork Commons. 
But as night fell, the water began to recede and Shelby residents breathed a sigh of relief.
We dodged a bullet, Mike Thompson, Shelby fire chief, said Monday morning as crews began cleaning a muddy Skiles Field.
This was a rain of 2½ to 3 inches, he added.  We get more than that, we re going to flood. The river only holds so much (water). ....

Police, fire, EMS workers had early awareness of COVID-19


MANSFIELD - Mansfield fire Chief Steve Strickling and Capt. Brian Danals, the department s safety officer, said they had an early awareness of the coronavirus and participated in a pandemic drill with Richland County the first week of January 2020.
I was looking at my phone and looking at this new virus coming out of China on the day of the drill, Strickling said.
Because I have an interest in that, I started paying attention to the World Health Organization website on a regular basis as cases expanded from China and I started talking to the guys and said this could be a big issue for us as it starts going, Strickling said. ....
