Kasaragod (Kerala) [India], September 16 (ANI): Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) state president K. Surendran appeared before the Kasargod district crime branch on Thursday, after he was summoned for questioning in the Manjeswaram election bribery case.
The BJP's Kerala unit, already under fire for allegedly using large amounts of black money in the April 6 assembly elections, was embroiled in a new controversy on Saturday, with a candidate claiming he was offered Rs 15 lakh to withdraw his nomination against BJP state chief K Surendran.

MANJESWARAM: A controversy has erupted in Kerala over the decision of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), a political offshoot of Islamist outfit Popular Front of India (PFI), to support the Congress-led UDF in Manjeswaram Assembly seat where BJP leader K Surendran is considered to be a top contender in the April 6 polls.

Manjeswaram MLA M.C. Kamaruddin, who had been lodged at Kannur Central Jail for several months in a jewellery investment fraud case, was released on bail on Thursday. Mr. Kamaruddin was released from the jail after he was granted bail by the court in all the 148 cases filed against him. He had been in the jail for 93 days.
Speaking to reporters, the MLA said there was a big conspiracy against him. He was imprisoned for three months, but that did not worry him.
He said there were a number of conspiracies against him ever since he won the byelection by an overwhelming majority.
