Laguna Beach is moving forward with its plans to have a Fourth of July fireworks display this year.
The item was brought to the Laguna Beach City Council by the city’s public works department. The council authorized the city manager to come to an agreement with fireworks display vendor Pyro Spectaculars by Souza. An amount of up to $35,000 has been set aside to fund the fireworks show. ....

Public invited to share thoughts on Laguna Beach city manager recruitment at virtual meetings

Laguna Beach will host a virtual meeting at 10 a.m. on March 6 to hear feedback from community members about the qualities they desire in a new city manager.
This will be the first of three virtual “listening sessions” hosted by the City’s executive search firm Bob Murray and Associates. Executive Vice President Gary Phillips will moderate the sessions via Zoom.

Laguna Beach settles sewage spill case for $1.5 million, half earmarked for system upgrade

Laguna Beach has agreed to pay more than $1.5 million to settle with state water regulators for its role in a November 2019 sewage spill that temporarily closed 16 miles of Orange County’s coastline.
A settlement agreement with the San Diego Regional Water Quality Control Board resolves an Administrative Civil Liability for the discharge of 1.7 million gallons into the Pacific Ocean.
“The San Diego Water Board Prosecution Team has been working closely with the City of Laguna Beach to reach this settlement and provide it for public comment,” Chiara Clemente, enforcement coordinator for the San Diego Water Board, wrote in an email Friday. “We are encouraged by the steps the City is taking to minimize the likelihood of a similar event in the future.” ....

Laguna Beach hasn’t fined any businesses for violating a regional health order that bans on-site dining at restaurants, the city manager shared Monday.
An absence of enforcement action could reflect Laguna Beach restauranteurs’ willingness to limit their operations to only delivery and takeout.
“The City is still working with restaurants to gain compliance and has not yet issued any fines,” City Manager John Pietig wrote in an email. “If issued, fines could range from $100 to $500 per violation.” ....
