A suspected poacher was arrested for fishing for West Coast Rock Lobster during the closed season in Gifkommetjie in the Cape of Good Hope Section of TMNP on Wednesday 12 May TMNP Park Manager Frans van Rooyen says eight ring nets and one rubber duck were confiscated. He says the suspects dumped the west coast rock lobsters in the ocean after being chased by the rangers. According to van Rooyen, several bags of abalone were also found during patrols the next morning. ....
Table Mountain reopens certain paths following fire 24 April 2021 12:23 PM Share This: Table Mountain National Park has announced the reopening of certain areas which had been closed off to the public due to the fire. Park Manager Frans van Rooyen says permitted recreational activities, including hiking and dog-walking, will be allowed to resume in the following reopened areas: Newlands Forest Molteno jeep track towards Kloofnek Atlantic Seaboard (Camps Bay, Kasteelspoort etc) Constantia Nek Van Rooyen has urged visitors to remain on demarcated footpaths and to be mindful of rules pertaining to keeping dogs under control. Other areas on Table Mountain National Park will remain closed until further notice in the interest of the safety and the sensitivity of certain areas post-fire , according to a statement issued by Van Rooyen. ....
The South African National Parks (SANParks) issued a statement on Monday, urging residents to steer clear of Table Mountain while the Cape Town fire rages. “Rangers had their hands full this morning at their entrances, stopping users from partaking in their usual day to day activities within the Table Mountain National Park (TMNP)”. Visitors are asked to remain patient as “most resources are dedicated to the fire”. “With users now attempting to go about their normal running, cycling or walking their dogs, we will not be able to fully concentrate on the fire, especially in the Newlands Forest and Rhodes Memorial zones”. ....
