The first major PlayStation 5 update has arrived, and as promised, it does allow anyone who as actually managed to get hold of a system to store their new-gen games on external USB hard drives. But even if you ve already downloaded it (or are still waiting to find a new console) there are more changes than just the ones listed in the announcement blog post.

As was announced yesterday, the first major PlayStation 5 system software update is now live. It brings with it a whole host of changes, but the most notable of all might be the added ability for folks to transfer PlayStation 5 video games back and forth from USB extended storage. Other changes include the ability to share gameplay to both PS5 and PS4 consoles, new accessibility features, and more.

We’ve added
Disable Game Chat Audio in the control center under
Sound. If you turn on this setting, your voice won’t be heard, and you won’t hear other players’ voices in game chats. This setting doesn’t apply to party voice chat audio. In Game Base, we’ve updated the following:
You can more easily access recent parties and see your online friends. Use the R1 and L1 buttons to quickly move between tabs. You can now turn notifications on or off for each of the parties you’re in. You can now adjust the volume of other players’ voices in party voice chat as well as in the game chat of some games. From the voice chat card in the control center, select a player to adjust their volume.
Manage Your Downloads from the Control Centre
In order to manage your downloads on the PS5 previously, you had to bring up the Control Centre by pushing the PlayStation button, then jump to the Downloads/Uploads page by clicking the option in the toolbar. With the new PS5 firmware update, however, you can prioritise downloads directly from the Control Centre, saving you time.
Hidden Trophy Information Is a Click Away
Sony has aligned hidden Trophy information with the PS4, meaning that you ll only need to push the Square button to see the requirements for a trinket. Previously, you d have to hit the Options button then scroll down to Show Hidden Information and select it, which was a laborious process.
