Many senior citizens, especially those on fixed incomes, say high inflation is making it harder to put food on the table or pay for prescriptions, and it is forcing them to make tough financial decisions.
Fort Bend County Judge KP George partnered with the Houston Food Bank and Missouri City-based Second Mile Mission for a food drive last Saturday at Heritage Rose Elementary School in Rosharon that served residents of Fresno and Rosharon impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and Winter Storm Uri.
The event was one of three sponsored events that took place Saturday as part of the countyâs inaugural âGandhi Day of Service.â
Other efforts included a food fair at Mamie George Community Center in Richmond as well as the NAMIWalk Your Way United Day of Hope at various locations around Houston to raise mental health awareness. The purpose behind the Gandhi Day of Service is to âencourage the Fort Bend County residents to take actionâ by volunteering their time, donating to a cause or hosting a food drive, according to a news release from the county.
