Despite the pandemic, the Maldives has in recent months seen a tourism revival. Fears are expressed that the move to bury Sri Lanka Muslims dying of COVID-19 in the Maldives may have an adverse impact on the tourism sector.
A move to bury in neighbouring Maldives Sri Lankan Muslims, who die of coronavirus infection, has misfired.
Both Colombo and Male have mysteriously dropped the move without adducing any reason. Perhaps they realised that the exercise is fraught with many political and international implications for the two countries. This is besides the opposition mounting in the archipelago, a tourist paradise with blue waters and white sandy beaches. Both Covid-19 victims and all other dead are buried in a cemeter ....
