Only Three Actors Have Won the Oscar Without Nods From Golden Globes and SAG Clayton Davis, provided by FacebookTwitterEmail All awards seasons lead to the Oscars, but for an actor or actress to stand on the Dolby Theatre stage (or as is most likely the case this year, accept the statuette virtually), the Golden Globes and SAG awards are the two most influential precursors. The SAG Awards have existed since 1995 and quickly established themselves as a place where an actor or actress would be recognized by their peers, due to its large crossover with AMPAS voters. The pair first worked together on Levinson’s feature debut “Assassination Nation” and continued into the hit HBO series “Euphoria.” For their latest, most intimate feat, a two-hander starring Zendaya and John David Washington as a couple confronting their turbulent relationships over the course of one night, Rév and Levinson had to scale down. ....
Award Shows Have an Opportunity to Be Historic This Year. Why Won t They Take It? Bonnie Stiernberg, provided by FacebookTwitterEmail This could have been the weirdest, best awards season of all time. With many of the usual blockbusters and award-show contenders postponed until it’s safe for audiences to return to movie theaters in droves, this was supposed to be the year that groups like the Hollywood Foreign Press and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences threw up their hands and left with no other choice finally rewarded a more diverse, less traditional group of deserving underdogs. They had plenty to choose from this year, too. There were plenty of excellent Black-led ensemble films whose subjects feel particularly relevant to today, like ....
