they have a briefing, they tell us what they know and we ask them questions. that s just kind of broken. i think we need to start from scratch and sit down and have a positive dialogue. there s a group of the families who have come together who are really developing as leaders within the group and we would like the chance to sit down and talk and have access to that report. we ll sign confidentiality greens and maybe not release it to all families until we understand why they weren t even allowed to be sent to us. now, of course, the malaysians don t have the marked cornered when it comes to poor communication as a government entity. but it is becoming a little confusing. that s why i ask the culture question because we also have it with indonesia. they say they have a report about what they were able to figure out about this flight. they, too, don want to release it publicly. it would be the assumption it would hurt a criminal investigation but we don t see the basis for that here t
part anyway. what do you make of that one? well, if indeed they have a report that contains such sensitive information that it would compromise an investigation then of course we could shee it. that s all the more reason to see it, so that the investigation can move forward with foresight and concerted and qualified effort. so them just holding this little report to their chest doesn t really solve a problem at all, does it? and the idea of they had promised the malaysians, we re going to have a team of experts. we will come to explain and understand why any idea about when that s going to happen? my guess is probably no time soon. partly because i m not sure they really have experts and if they do i m not sure the experts have anything they can tell us. realistically we continue necessarily believe they re
up but high time they got them going. good news. spider, who has these additional assets? will the malaysian authorities be turning to countries be looking to the u.s. navy maybe? are they going to look to private companies who has this stuff? kate, lit be a combination. the malaysians don t have the capacity themselves to do this so they will go to the contributing nations, those who have been involved to date. clearly the united states has got some tremendous capabilities in the military and available commercially. and at some point we have to be very frank. there s a huge cost element to this. if they can latch on to a piece of intelligence, this object of interest, if this leads to something then there needs to be a resulting surge in term of collection capabilities. if not, then the inevitable will be how much is this going to cost, how long is it going to take, expectations are going to have to be decreased in terms of the immediacy of an answer. but other nations will have t
unprofessional. that is what got the malaysians into so much trouble. so to hear this from the prime minister today, after no advancements, that doesn t add credibility, all it does it take away the small faith that the families had in the government at this point. so i am just a little concerned and confused about this sudden confidence that it is from that airplane and it is the pinger. you know, i believe that it is, i m confident that it is, but i m not the prime minister. that bothers me a little bit. it really does. van, let s talk about the bluefin-21, the next phase, after they stop hearing pings. the technology, even if it is very advanced it is incredibly challenging terrain. it is cold, pitch black, different levels of salination. explain how far it will work. so the biggest issue down there when you operate it at
going to be a moot effort. i am pretty sure the malaysians don t have the desire to take the black boxes and see if they can monkey around with them and make it work. we re talking about the expertise. there is only a few places in the world where they have the expertise and the safety to do it. ntsb in washington, i can t imagine the malaysians insisting they take those black boxes and with no expertise. thank you so much for our panel, david souci, miles o brien, we appreciate it. coming up, he is a hollywood icon who has personally explored the depths of the ocean. director james cameron tells me what it is like going nearly seven miles in the water. as we discuss flight 370. if there was a pill to help protect your eye health as you age. would you take it? well, there is.
