Frontiers | School Building Energy Assessment Using Lean Energy Management Strategies

In Malaysia, there are approximately 10,2200 government schools and these schools’ electricity bills are under the responsibility of the Ministry of Education Malaysian Government. The demand for energy use is expected to rise dramatically in the coming years due to many factors such as the increasing number of students enrolment and the demand for a comfortable indoor environment in response to global climate effects. Therefore, there are many ideas, concepts, and technologies that have been introduced towards energy conservation in buildings. This study aims to identify key implementation of energy conservation measures and audit energy consumption of five (5) secondary schools. Case studies derived from schools that participated in Energy Efficiency Challenge hosted by Energy Commission. It was found that the school’s usage of electricity exceeded their need. How to promote the creation of green buildings in Malaysia

THE upcoming Earth Day, on April 22, would be a golden opportunity for the government and the private sector to discuss an important method of reducing greenhouse gas emissions that is rarely brought up: green buildings. According to the World Green Building Council, a “green” building is one that, in its design, construction or operation, reduces or eliminates negative impacts and can create a positive impact on our climate and natural environment. Green building refers to both the structure as well as the application of processes that promote efficient use of energy, water and other resources while reducing the building’s impact on human health and the environment during the building’s lifecycle, from planning to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation and demolition.
