Boley, who is a retired auditor with the Internal Revenue Service, was elected to the commission in 2015 and served as mayor in 2018. Regarding why he wants to continue his service on the commission, Boley said that with the commission’s new strategic plan and priority based budgeting process, he thinks the commission is making progress in providing excellent city services to Lawrence residents at a reasonable cost. He said he would like to continue that work. ....

Lawrence City Commissioner Jennifer Ananda announced Thursday that she planned to begin a Ph.D. program and would not be running for reelection. Ananda began her term on the commission in 2018, was part of the commission’s first female majority and served as mayor last year. Ananda told the Journal-World that a lot of work remained before the end of her term in December but that she wanted to let the public know that she would not be seeking another term. “I’m still enthusiastic about doing the business of the city, and I’m also looking forward to getting to see the faces of those who will be running,” Ananda said. ....
MaâKoâQuah Jones Sustainability Advisory Board chair and community organizer Ma’Ko’Quah Jones has filed for election to the Lawrence City Commission. Jones, who has degrees in government, Native American studies and environmental law, said working in government has always been one of her goals. In addition to her role on the SAB, Jones is the founder and chair of the Kansas Democratic Party Native American Caucus, a coordinator with the League of Women Voters of Kansas, and a Kansas Association for Conservation and Environmental Education board member. Jones, a citizen of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, said that important issues for her include environmental justice, support for social service organizations and bringing underrepresented members of the community into politics. ....
