Early Lady Horn Grecia Yebra is headed to the UIL Class 3A Track and Field State Championships May 6-8 in Austin after capturing the Region I-3A title in the girls 200 meters Saturday in Abilene.
Yebra was clocked at 25.39 in the finals after posting the third-best time of 26.03 in Friday’s preliminaries. Yebra held off fellow state qualifier and runner-up Makki Hart of Shallowater (25.67), who posted the fastest time in the preliminaries.
Also for Early, Vic Cooper came in third the boys triple jump (44-7) and could be in line to move on to Austin. The best third-place performer from each of the four regions in the state qualifies as the “wild card” or ninth member of the state field in each event.
