Far on this trip. i think there s a reason for that. the pope has sniffed out that this is an extraordinarily polarized political climate in the united states. i think he believes that the united states potentially has the power to be a change agent on so many issues in the world. but to some extent, its capacity to harness that energy is hampered by the polarization and the division, i think the last thing he wants to do while he s here is feed that polarization. one of the really interesting things that we don t normally see when a pope speaks is a clear indication he wants to influence the international discussions on things. he s done that over and over with his talk on the environment and says i want to influence the discussions that are going to go on. we keep coming back to his phrase, now one of my favorite things. osiendo leo, making a ruckus. he wants to make a ruckus that will be heard and decided ....
Stewardship of finance is in power? it s hard to see him come here if he s going to criticize capital im, he s not going to find allies on the democratic side. do you think he wants allies? do you think he cares? i think he does. he wants to be received well. of course, he wants to sevnd his message. he realizes he s in a place that s a historic moment. it s the first time a pope has ever addressed a member of congress. he wants to be remembered warmly here. on that issue of tolerance, not just for the poor and different groups, refugees from europe, we heard there s going to be a again scolding to members of congress to talk to the other party. imagine that. he said it to the bishops yesterday just because you get opposition doesn t mean you respond in kind. i want to give you a little pushback, his significant phrase is hacienedo, making a ruckus. ....
That dictates damages as well as compensation. in this case if it is deliberate act by the pilot or co-pilot here the agent of the airline, the airline will be completely responsible and have to pay all applicable damages to families of victims. according to the prosecutor listening to him this morning, he talked about considering manslaughter charges. with a dead co-pilot how would they proceed? here again, it s interesting. that s something they tend to become involved with more in europe. we ve seen it a few times, prosecutions along with what we consider to be negligent or a greater level of misconduct. trying to treat that a little more criminal context. here they may look beyond if there was some reason to the pilot to see if there was knowledge in the hands of the airline that they might have ....
Investigators are piecing this together. they re saying they know what happened. they don t know the why. they re still trying to figure out why this co-pilot this 28-year-old german national with 630 flight hours, deliberately crashed the jet as the plane made the final deadly descent. the pilot was locked out of the cockpit. we have it explained how that s possible. it s many the normal position spring loaded. i unlock it to unlock the door. they can come in. it s in the norm position door cannot be opened by the regular knob. you have to have the key pad to open it or i have to unlock it. the only way the pilot or co-pilot cannot get in is by ....
Threat. the other threat inside that the european carriers did not really see through. this is the part that gets me. the fact you know there s this code outside this door. you know if the pilot had tried to type the code in. this loud high pitch piercing alarm goes off for 30 seconds as explained to me. the person inside had a couple of options. they can open the door. they can refuse entry locking the door. after 30 seconds the door automatically opens. that didn t happen. that didn t because of the override which gives the pilot in the cockpit, the remaining person up there, the ability to override the code. thank you. my thanks to you. just horrible. there are no words for this one. coming up next we don t know what was going on inside the co-pilot s head. ....
