Legacy of Sufis, Reshis indispensable to our rich heritage, culture – Kashmir Reader

  Srinagar: Kashmir University’s Markaz-i Noor Centre for Shaikh-ul-Aalam Studies (CSAS) on Saturday organised another extension lecture on Shaikh-ul-Aalam (RA). Renowned historian and philosopher Prof Sanaullah Parvaz delivered the lecture second in a week’s time titled ‘Contested Reading of Shaikh-ul-Aalam’. Referring to iconic role of Shaikh-ul-Aalam (RA) in promoting harmony and brotherhood in Kashmir, Prof Parvaz stressed on the need to adhere to the rich Reshi-Sufi precepts in the contemporary scenario, and to understand Shaikh-ul-Aalam’s poems and make them accessible to the young generation. “The iconic role of Sufis and Reshis in cultural transformation of Kashmir at an important juncture of our history has to be the main focus of our scholars as the legacy of Sufis and Reshis is indispensable to Kashmir heritage and culture,” he said, asserting that efforts need to be made to incorporate their glorious teachings in the curriculum.

Covid-19 and Mental Health, KU Hosts A Lecture

SRINAGAR: Top experts, administrators and academics Thursday jointly underscored the need to go for regular counselling of both students and teachers to help them combat the adverse fallouts of the Coronavirus pandemic. Noted psychiatrist, Prof Arshad Husain delivered an on line lecture on mental issues during the pandemic in an event of the University of Kashmir Addressing as chief guest a webinar organised by Kashmir University’s UGC-HRDC in collaboration with Government Degree College Bijbehara, Talat Pervez Rohella, Commissioner-Secretary of J&K’s Higher Education Department, outlined the department’s comprehensive plan for the mental wellbeing of students and teachers across the UT, an official spokesman of the University said.

KU organises book release function

Experts for development, promotion of children’s literature in mother-tongue Srinagar: The University of Kashmir on Thursday organised a book-release function in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art Culture and Languages. Two books titled ‘Achre Moth’ a collection of critical essays and ‘Jiger Khante’ a collection of rhymes and poems for children were released on the occasion. Both are authored by noted Kashmiri writer, Mr Showket Ansari. Renowned Kashmiri scholar and writer Prof Shafi Shauq was the chief guest on the occasion, while Prof Gulshan Majeed presided over the function, organised by the varsity’s Department of Kashmiri. Underscoring the importance of developing genuine children’s literature in their mother-tongue, Prof Shauq said it was one of the important ways to promote the language and help youngsters to stay rooted to their culture.
