Senate Passes Reforms to Industrial Development Agencies


(Albany, NY) Today, the Senate passed legislation to reform Industrial Development Agencies (IDAs) across New York State. The bills will increase accountability and transparency in the IDA process, prevent intra-state piracy, eliminate conflicts of interest, require notice of IDA projects, prohibit certain persons from receiving compensation, allow the public to access and inspect information, and support the preservation of regionally significant projects.
In March of 2019, Senator James Skoufis, Chair of the Senate Committee on Investigations and Government Operations, opened an investigation into the compliance and practices of public authorities, including Industrial Development Agencies (IDAs), across New York State. The Committee issued information and document requests to 143 public authorities including state authorities, local authorities, industrial development agencies, and local development corporations. State budget funds $4 million to Redistricting Commission


ALBANY — Members of the state Independent Redistricting Commission are waiting on the state Legislature’s direction, and Gov. Andrew Cuomo to sign the 2021-22 state budget, to access millions of dollars to start redrawing elective district lines months behind schedule.
The redistricting commission was allocated $4 million in the Legislature’s $212 billion budget, which passed nearly one week after the midnight April 1 deadline, and matches the commission’s budget request submitted to the Legislature and the Executive Chamber.
The Assembly proposed the commission receive $7 million in its 2021-22 budget last month. The Senate earmarked the commission’s requested $4 million included in the final spending plan. ....

PragerU launches 'pro-America' educational resources for kids

PragerU, a popular conservative group whose videos have garnered billions of views since its founding in 2011, announced the launch of its educational resources for children.
In an announcement emailed to supporters on Monday, Prager said nearly 10,000 educators and parents have already joined PragerU Resources for Educators and Parents.
“Our schools are teaching that America is not a land of plenty, but a nation of systemic oppression and inequality. Students learn half-truths or lies to make them feel ashamed of being American,” the website states. ....
