Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation Hadarin Daji, have successfully neutralised about 40 suspected bandits in Katsina and Zamfara States.
This is according to a statement signed by the Defence media operations, Major General John Eneche and made available to journalists in Sokoto on Monday.
He said, “Following credible intelligence on the movement of armed bandits with rustled animals at Bungudu LGA of Zamfara State, troops of Forward Operating Base Kekuwuje on Sunday, 17 January 2021, responded immediately and made contact with bandits. In the course of the encounter 30 armed bandits were neutralised while 24 cows and an unspecified number of sheep were recovered.

The Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Police Force have given conflicting figures on the number of rescued students of Hizburrahim Islamiyya, Mahuta village, Dandume LGA of Katsina State.
The rescue was said to have taken place on Saturday. While the police said they rescued 80 pupils, 12 cows; the army said it rescued 39 girls and eight cows.

The police in their statement said, “On 19/12/2020 at about 2200hrs, a distress call was received by DPO Dandume, that some Islamiyya Students of Hizburrahim Islamiyya, Mahuta village, Dandume LGA of Katsina state, numbering about eighty (80), while on their way back from Maulud Occassion celebrated at Unguwan Alkasim village, Dandume to Mahuta, were accosted by bandits who had already kidnapped four(4) persons and rustled twelve (12) cows from Danbaure village, Funtua LGA, trying to escape into the forest.

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Wednesday declared that the Military was not part of the purported onging negotiation with the abductors of the Students of the Governmenent Science Secondary School in Kankara Local Government Area of Kastina State.
The Coordinator, Defence Media Operations (DMO), Major General John Eneche made the clarification in Abuja while briefing Defence Correspondents on the operations of the Armed Forces of Nigeria in the various theatres across the six geo-Political Zones taggetted at ending insurgency activities in the country.
General Eneche who stated that it was not in the character or parts of the rule of engagement of the Military to negotiate with percived criminals vowed that the Nigerian Military would rescue the remaining abducted School boys from their abductors soon .
