India Marks Global Record Rise In COVID-19 Cases For A Day: 314,000
New Delhi  India reported a global record of more than 314,000 new infections Thursday as a grim coronavirus surge in the world s second-most populous country sends more and more sick people into a fragile health care system critically short of hospital beds and oxygen.
The 314,835 infections added in the past 24 hours raise India s total past 15.9 million cases since the pandemic began. It s the second-highest total in the world next to the United States, which has roughly double that with nearly 32 million, according to Johns Hopkins University. India has nearly 1.4 billion people. ....

New Delhi  Most hospitals are full. In some cases, two patients share a bed. Stocks of oxygen, medicines and vaccines are all running out. Doctors and nurses are overworked. Thousands of patients are dying every day, leaving bodies to pile up outside crematoriums and graveyards. There s panic in the air as coronavirus cases multiply across India at the most fearsome rate since the pandemic struck more than a year ago. 
India s second wave really started gaining steam this month, with the daily count of new infections repeatedly setting new records throughout April. The total number of COVID-19 cases reported in India now stands at over 15 million. More than 1.5 million of those infections have been reported in the last seven days alone.
