Maine basketball fans have seen Amy Vachon from her playing days at Cony High School, to her time wearing a UMaine uniform, to becoming a high school coach and winning titles at what was known as Mcauley high school in southern Maine, to joining the Black Bears women s coaching staff and becoming the UMaine head coach and winning conference titles, and leading the Bears to another regular season conference championship this year. But there are some stories you may not know about and Tim Throckmorton uncovered those. Well two of them anyway. One of them he made up completely. Maine Women Close Out Regular Season with 82-53 Win Over UNH The Maine Women s Basketball Team closed out the regular season with a 82-53 victory over the University of New Hampshire Saturday afternoon, February 20th at The Pit on the UMaine campus. UMaine, the regular season American East champions was led by Blanca Millan and Anne Simon who each finished with 21 points and 9 rebounds. Maeve Carroll and Kelly Fogarty each had 12 points. Dor Saar had 6 points and 6 assists and is the only Black Bear to record 1000 points AND 500 assists in her career! UNH was led by Amanda Torres with 16 points and Ivy Gogolin with 14 points. ....

Gives Radio Tour Of $110mil Plan Ken Ralph, who began his day by unveiling the ambitious $110-million athletics facilities plan for the University of Maine, ended it by appearing on The Drive to walk the listeners through what is in store over the next several years on the Orono campus. In a year that just saw their counterparts on the men s side forced to cut the season short, Amy Vachon s University of Maine women s basketball program is strong as ever heading down the home stretch of the regular season. The Black Bears are 15-2 on the season, including a 12-2 record in America East play, three wins and two full games ahead of the field in the conference. Since taking over the program, Vachon has guided Maine to a 50-12 mark in conference play, including two America East titles. The Black Bears were slated to play in the conference championship game last season before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic forced the season to be called off. ....
