Ranchi: The Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) on Saturday postponed its Class X and XII board exams indefinitely in view of the surge in Covid cases in the state. “We will review the Covid situation and take a further call on the matter on June 1,” JAC secretary Mahip Singh said. The exams were scheduled to begin from May 4. Singh assured that whichever date they decide to conduct the exams on, students will be given at least 15 days’ time to prepare. Around seven lakh students were scheduled to appear for the exams across 2,150 centres. Many pupils, teachers and even some JAC officials were pressing the council to defer/cancel the exams.

On a day when the CBSE Class X exams were cancelled and Class XII exams deferred because of the nationwide surge in Covid cases, an association of private schools in Jharkhand made the demand for postponement of the matriculation and intermediate examinations of the state board which are scheduled to commence from May 4. A delegation of the Jharkhand Gair Sarkari Vidyalaya Sangh, led by its state president Mohammed Tahir Hussain, on Wednesday met the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) secretary Mahip Singh and submitted memorandum requesting the deferment of the exams considering the unprecedented surge in Covid-19 cases in the state.
