Creative Africa Nexus Presents a Digital Event: World IP Day 2021 – Harnessing African Creative Intellectual Property – AfricaBusiness.com

If the creative industry of Africa was a car, intellectual property would be its fuel. The Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX), a programme put in place by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) to support Africa’s creative and cultural industries, announces a series of virtual forums in the lead-up to the Intra-African Trade Fair 2021 (IATF2021) taking place in Kigali, Rwanda from 8 to 14 December, 2021 with the next event being focused on intellectual property. Most African states have in place intellectual property laws that are important tools to safeguard creativity and innovation so as to fuel growth of copyright based industries under the  African Continental Free Trade Agreement.  A number of issues remain critical if IP rights are to evolve into an asset class that can be monetised on the continent, including the administration and enforcement of IP laws, and the harmonisation of their application at regional and continental level.

Highlights of the 4th African Space Generation Workshop Highlights of the 4th African Space Generation Workshop The 4th AF-SGW was themed, A United Africa for Space Innovation: A Step Towards Our Common Future . It was a hybrid event: attendees who couldn t travel to Ghana to attend in-person joined virtually. In collaboration with its sponsors and partners, the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) held the 4th African Space Generation Workshop (AF-SGW) on February 25–26, 2021, at the GIMPA Conference Hall Accra, Ghana. The 4th AF-SGW ought to have held in November 2020, but it was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Hence, a call for a hosting city has been put out for the 5th AF-SGW. The call is open to SGAC members in the African region. But countries that have hosted a major SGAC regional event in the past three years cannot bid again. These include Ethiopia, Ghana, Mauritius, and Nigeria.
