Months after an FIR was registered, the construction of a mall in Ghaziabad has been delayed due to the failure to raise retaining walls on the plot. Residents allege that the developer did not have the necessary approval for the commercial project.
On July 9, a portion of the service road of Gaur Global Village Society, Crossing Republik, overlooking this pit on the mall site, caved in. A second chunk of the road gave in on Monday, and a portion of the wall of the under-construction mall had also collapsed.
Residents fear the pit, filled with water after recent rains, was leading to seepage and weakening the foundation of nearby buildings and their boundary walls.
