Assam: Over 570 structures damaged in quake, injury count surges to 12 | Guwahati News

GUWAHATI: The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Thursday said the total number of injured people in the state has gone up to 12 and no casualties have been reported in last 24 hours.
“Damage assessment has been completed in 18 districts so far and 428 residential houses/ apartments etc., 148 private and public institutions like school, anganwadi centres, health centres, government buildings, namghar, etc., are reported to have been damaged,” the authority stated.
The damage has been reported from Baska, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Darrang, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Golaghat, Hojai, Jorhat, Kamrup Metro, Karbi Anglong, Lakhimpur, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur and Udalguri districts. Other infrastructure damage includes one embankment in Baska district, two bridges in Nagaon district, APDCL infrastructure in Sonitpur, Udalguri and Hojai districts. ....

Eight quakes have jolted the state since Wednesday night
A total of eight quakes jolted the state since Wednesday night and all originated in and around Tezpur, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) said in its bulletin.
The strongest one was of 4.6 magnitudes that hit at 1:20 am, forcing the people to run out of their homes in panic.
Strong tremors were felt in several parts of northeast India and north Bengal.

The other tremors were 2.8, 2.6, 2.9, 2.3, 2.7, 2.7, and 2.8 in magnitude, hitting the state at 9:38 pm, 12:24 am, 1:10 am, 1:41 am, 1:52 am, 2:38 am and 7:13 am, the NCS said. ....

(Eds: With fresh inputs) Guwahati/New Delhi, Apr 28 (PTI) A series of earthquakes jolted Assam and most of the Northeastern states on Wednesday, causing extensive damage to buildings and forcing people to scamper out of their homes.
There were no immediate reports of deaths directly due to the tremors, but two persons - one each in Kamrup Metropolitan and Nagaon districts - died due to shock and heart attack around the time of the earthquake, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said.
According to initial reports, 10 people suffered injuries in four districts as the first quake of 6.4 magnitude struck Tezpur, the headquarters of Sonitpur district, at 7.51 am, the ASDMA said in a statement. ....
