Milestones Highlight Prep Results [Scores Mon Mar 8]
It was a good night to celebrate stats ending in a series of zeroes. Blooming Prairie senior Megan Oswald grabbed her 1,000th career rebound in an overtime loss to Waterville-Elysian-Morristown. Owatonna junior Evan Dushek scored his 1,000th career point in a win at Northfield. OHS sophomore Ezra Oien collected her 100th career point in a hockey victory at Austin.
Oswald s milestone rebound came on her first rebound in what turned out to be an overtime thriller between the top two teams in the Gopher Conference. WEM prevailed 60-51 in overtime in a game that was tight throughout regulation with several ties down the stretch.

Owatonna High School held a National Signing Day celebration to recognize 18 student-athletes that have committed to play sports while attending college. It is a cross-section of sports, educational interests and levels of college. Signings represent NCAA Divisions I, II and III, plus NAIA Division II and National Junior College level.
Wednesday was a day for smiles and congratulatory messages. The work of balancing college life, college courses and college athletics will come later. Several other OHS student-athletes are expected to join their classmates but hadn t made a final decision yet.
Several students I spoke with said picking a college or university for their desired field of study was first priority. Some reached out to coaches at their schools of interest. In some cases coaches reached out to them through a variety of ways. Some students may have had a campus visit, but not all, due to the pandemic.
Huskies Sweep Falcons [Prep Roundup, Monday Feb. 1]
The Owatonna High School girls and boys basketball teams had to battle through lineup limitations but earned a sweep over Faribault in Big Nine basketball Monday, February 1. Sarah Kingland fouled out with five minutes remaining in a 61-51 victory at Nomeland Gymnasium in Faribault. The boys had a couple of starters limited due to injury but still beat the Falcons at OHS 69-43.
The Owatonna girls went on a 12-0 run in the first half after a hot start by Faribault from three-point range staked the Falcons to an 18-13 lead. After hitting five of their first seven three-point shots, Faribault was 3-for-17 for the rest of the game, according to AM 1390 KRFO stats.
