NESCAC Powers: No. 1 Middlebury and No. 2 Tufts
Middlebury currently sits atop the IWLCA Div. III ranks, as Tufts trails in the No. 2 spot. The pair of NESCAC powers both finished 3-0 during the COVID-truncated 2020 season; both teams return the bulk of their talent to make a run
if they re able to compete this spring.
Earning Media All-America honors last spring, Middlebury s Erin Nicholas posted four goals in three outings last spring, while also grabbing 16 draws, nine groundballs and causing eight turnovers. Earning first-team honors alongside Nicholas, Addy Mitchell is widely regarded as one of the top defenders in the nation. The senior caused six turnovers and picked up eight groundballs last season.

Notre Dame came out firing.
The Irish were dominant in the first half, scoring the game’s first six goals and holding visiting Vanderbilt scoreless until there was 1:59 left before halftime. After a brief hiccup at the start of the second half, No. 2 Notre Dame rolled to a 19-5 win inside Loftus Sports Center on Saturday afternoon.
Samantha Lynch and Kasey Choma each scored five goals in the season-opening win. Lynch added two assists, giving her a game-high seven points. Jessi Masinko scored four times, and Madison Ahern the team leader in points as a freshman in 2020 collected one goal and four assists.

Duke s Owen Caputo ranked second on the team in points with 12 goals and eight assists.
After an offseason headlined by impact transfers and the return of several program staples, Duke is No. 1 in the Nike/US Lacrosse Division I Men’s Preseason Top 20.
There’s a potential super team brewing in Durham. Michael Sowers, the ankle-breaking Princeton transfer and US Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Player of the Year who stockpiled points with ease before the COVID-19 pandemic ended the 2020 season, joins an attack that will also welcome Brennan O’Neill, the top recruit in his class. Sowers’ Princeton teammate, Phil Robertson, also transferred in to team with his brother, Joe, who is healthy after tearing his ACL last spring. Dyson Williams brings even more firepower to the table.
