WSU study shows lack of college trust among students of color | WSU Insider

According to the report, campus leaders were the least trusted among college personnel. Approximately 30% of first-year Black students said they trusted campus leadership very little or did not trust them all at a rate two times that of non-Black students.

Students of color trust colleges and college leadership less compared to their white peers, according to a national study developed by education researchers at Washington State University Tri-Cities and Indiana University.
The researchers’ results showed campus leaders were the least trusted among college personnel. Approximately 29% of first-year Black students said they did not trust their college leaders, while 16% of non-Black first-year students said the same. ....

WSU Tri-Cities to host public COVID‑19 vaccination clinic | WSU Insider

Washington State University Tri‑Cities is partnering with Rite Aid to host a public COVID‑19 vaccination clinic from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on April 7. Second doses will be administered as part of a follow up campus clinic on April 28.
The clinic will be hosted in the WSU Tri‑Cities Consolidated Information Center (CIC) during both days.

Improving energy production at small wastewater treatment plants | WSU Insider

RICHLAND, Wash. – A professor with the Bioproducts, Sciences and Engineering Laboratory at Washington State University Tri-Cities is developing a way to drastically improve energy production at small waste water treatment plants. The research has the potential to be scaled globally.
Birgitte Ahring, professor of biological systems engineering and chemical engineering, received a $2.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy for the project. She is partnering locally with the Walla Walla Wastewater Treatment Plant, the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and Clean-Vantage, LLC.
Sewage sludge is a remnant semi-solid material produced at sewage treatment plants. Ahring said while a portion of sludge is converted into biogas, at a mixture of 60% methane and 40% carbon dioxide at the majority of wastewater treatment facilities in the U.S., there still remai ....

Data analysis from a Washington State University Tri‑Cities psychology statistics course will be used to help Camp Korey, a camp for children with serious medical conditions, improve recruitment strategies and further refine camp programming to meet the needs of the children and families it serves amid COVID‑19 and beyond.
The WSU Tri‑Cities course, titled “Statistics in Psychology,” which is taught by associate psychology professor Janet Peters, partners each semester with a regional non‑profit to analyze data and turn it into useable sets of information. RICHLAND, Wash. – Washington State University Tri‑Cities will host several presentations on potential solutions for the school-to-prison pipeline, as well as barriers for individuals’ successful reentry into society from prison, as part of its latest “Community Classroom” series that begins this month.
Presenters will provide perspectives and strategies for how communities can proactively change statistics and create pathways for successful rehabilitation. Attendees will be invited to explore the current state of affairs in the regional Tri‑Cities area and investigate opportunities for stronger partnerships for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated members, locally.
