(Photo submitted) OTTAWA The Myers family in Columbus Grove has two reasons to brag after this year’s Putnam County Fair. Madelynn, 13, showed her Old English Game Bantam Black Breasted Red for a Grand Champion banner and Alysann, 12, showed her Quail Belgian Bearded d’Anver bantam chicken for Reserve Champion. Both competed in the Junior Division. The chickens are the sisters’ chores and they also make sure the chickens are used to being handled so when it comes time to show them off, they’re used to the girls. The sisters also say their chickens are smart. ....
Boonville Daily News Pilot Grove, Bunceton, Prairie Home and New Franklin held their commencement ceremonies over the weekend to recognize the senior Class of 2021. At Pilot Grove’s Commencement Exercises Friday night, 20 graduates were welcomed by Pilot Grove Superintendent Ashley Groepper. Following Groepper’s speech, keynote speaker Trevor Day (Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever Regional Director) spoke to the senior class and families in attendance. Class speaker Dylan Schupp then gave a speech, followed by Pilot Grove Secondary Principal Randall Glenn-who gave a presentation of class and scholarship recognition. Pilot Grove Board of Education President Joni Schupp awarded the diplomas, while Dalton Reuter gave the benediction before the recessional. ....
Sarah Kuschel Special to Boonville Daily News Addison Ray, daughter of Aaron and Tammy Ray of Speed, and a member of the Mid-Missouri Aces softball team was recognized Jan. 10. She has played on the team for a couple of years and was named offensive player of the year and pitcher of the year for 2020. Michael Gregory, son of Jason Gregory of Bunceton, had a double promotion to the rank of sergeant. He is a sophomore at Bunceton High School and a member of the JROTC at Boonville Technical School. Gregory is the grandson of MIke and Susan Gregory of Bunceton. ....
Sarah Kuschel The Bunceton High School agriculture class recently held a food drive. Cans were collected and sent home in buddy packs over the holiday break. It was an amazing group effort, said Chris Herriman, business and ag teacher. I want to thank all my fellow teachers and staff members for their generous contributions, he said. I also want to thank community members and parents for their considerate donations. The class collected 300 cans of food and 150 boxes of noodles and other food products. A social media post from Bunceton senior Maddie Brandes generated a lot of support. Jason Burnett and Hunter Shuffield helped move and organize the food. A lot of the donations were soup or other high-calorie items. ....
