Bye Bye, Binary, which was published last year, stars a baby main character refuses to say when asked if they are a boy or girl and instead responds What s it to ya? .
This issue first arose at the March 6 school board meeting at which Saylor attempted to fast-track a new policy making it easier to challenge books available to students in the district. That attempt failed in a 4-4 vote.
The proposal under consideration by the Perkiomen Valley School Board mirrors the controversial policy adopted last year by the Central Bucks School District.
In 18 years, taken together, the titles being challenged have been accessed by students a total of 134 times. The annual attendance at Perkiomen Valley High School is just under 1,800 students, meaning the titles in question have been accessed by less than half a percent of all the students who have attended the school in the last 18 years.
