Michigan Humane takes in 17 puppies from Detroit home Posted at 2:30 PM, Mar 01, 2021 and last updated 2021-03-01 14:30:25-05 (WXYZ) â The Michigan Humane Field Services team took in 17 puppies from a Detroit home on Monday. Michigan Humane says this was done after several weeks of work with the pet owner. The puppies are currently in care at the Mackey Center for Animal Care in Detroit and are in the process of being assessed by the medical team. The owner of the dogs chose to surrender them to the shelter after the owner was no longer able to provide support. Currently, Michigan Humane says it is not able to accept adoption inquiries for these puppies and a timeline is not in place for when they will be available for adoption. ....

The puppies were part of unexpected litters from the home and were not neglected. The puppies are currently being cared for by staff at the Mackey Center for Animal Care in Detroit. The Detroit homeowner had been working with the Humane Society for the last few weeks to surrender the puppies. “These are what we call owner surrender,” Anna Chrisman of the Michigan Humane Society told MLive. “The owner was working closely with us. It was just a case of too many animals in the home and the owner not being able to give the support and care they needed. It was litters that were not planned.” ....
The Michigan Humane crew donned helmets, yellow life jackets, and orange wet suits and brought their catch poles. They slid across the ice in a raft and trudged through the freezing-cold water with a boat to safely bring the barking dog back to shore. Folks from shore yelled to the dog: It s OK, boy. It s OK, big guy. However, Bronson had other plans. The dog decided to jump off the island and head back to Belle Isle. Onlookers tried to direct Bronson, yelling, No! No! No! and You re going to fall in, dude! when he headed toward thin ice. As Bronson started to run toward them, they said: Come on, buddy! and Good boy! ....
