Would say there is not enough data here to justify that full recommendation of going to high risk individuals. but i think dr. walensky and the fda understands how upset the public is, especially those who are willing to get those first two immunizations, and they re terrified of getting breakthrough covid. and breakthrough long covid, especially with the data showing brain matter brain degeneration. she had to make a tough judgment call and ultimately i support what she did. how unusual is it to overrule the advisers? you know, usually acip is also working closely with the cdc and by the time it gets to the acip they re pretty much on the same page, but, you know, john, we re in the middle of a screaming pandemic, and taken aback by this delta virus that swept through the south and caused so much so many deaths and so many hospitalizations. ....
I don t think so. in fact, what dr. walensky has done is aligned her agency with what the fda recommendations were. the fda recommendations were actually then taken up by the acip and the acip rejected one of the recommendations. this aligns. i think what is confusing for people is the good news is the transparency. you can watch this the meetings, hear the discussions on social media. the bad news, it is really hard to see how the sausage is made. it is really confusing and you think people don t know what they re talking about. the reality is that there is a lot of unsrcertainty here and i think the right decisions were made based on the current data we have and where we are on this pandemic. the focus now is on folks at increased risk, people immunocompromised, people at increased risk of getting infected, folks who work in school or healthcare workers, that kind of thing. do you believe after you serve that group, with the boosters, that eventually the ....

Breaking with advisers? well, if what she wound up doing was mostly siding with the fda s recommendation and, you know, it s i understand both sides of this discussion, both from the advisory committee and immunization practices and her statement this morning and ultimately i side with d dr. walensky, but it is based on very limited data. we have from israel showing that the ithird immunization gives substantially increased protection against hospitalizations and breakthrough cases and possibly long covid. but it is only based on 25 days after the third immunization. so limited data in hand. and then there is a study that was put up in the morbidity, mortality weekly reports and on wr showing a decline in infected for the pfizer vaccine. i think the scientists on the acip and the group on the acip ....
The end acip will likely go along with the fda recommendations. where do you fall on that question of what the purpose of vaccines is because he think the longer we are in this pandemic the more important that question is. is it to prevent severe infection and death, is it to try to prevent as many people as possible from getting sick at all? how do you view that and how do you think that informs the policy discussion? well, i want it all. i want to vaccinate i want to vaccinate our country out of this epidemic and i feel it is possible. it s a very high bar. it s going to be 90% immunization with three doses of both mrna vaccines and two doses of the j&j vaccine but i counter we ve done this before. we ve done it to eliminate polio and measles and i think we can do it with covid-19. i think the conflating part of all of this in addition is the global equity argument. they re saying how can you justify that when the rest of ....
