New Rep Theatre names interim executive arts director New Repertory Theatre New Repertory Theatre recently announced the appointment of the Boston-based and award-winning theater producer and director M. Bevin O’Gara as its interim executive artistic director, effective April 5. O’Gara will serve in this position for approximately 9 to 12 months until the search for a permanent artistic director has been completed and a new leader is appointed. She succeeds Michael J. Bobbitt, who began his new role as the executive director of the Massachusetts Cultural Council in February. “New Rep’s search committee is thrilled with the appointment of Bevin as our interim executive artistic director,” Jo Trompet, chair of New Rep’s board of directors, said. “Her familiarity and connections with the Boston theater community, previous employment at New Rep and strong commitment to using theater to advance equity and anti-racism made her a unanimous choice. ....
Watch a 10-minute play every day and raise money for the Theatre Community Benevolent Fund March 31, 2021 Twitter Facebook M. Bevin O’Gara has supported the Theatre Community Benevolent Fund, but never expected to ask for its help herself. Veteran Boston director O’Gara (CFA’04), whose credits include plays at the Huntington Theatre Company and Boston Playwrights’ Theatre, donated to the fund and even performed in a fundraising video. She has also regularly bought tickets for the Boston Theater Marathon, an annual festival of 10-minute plays that is the fund’s largest revenue source. ....

Bevin O’Gara decided not to renew her contract as producing artistic director at the Kitchen Theatre Company in Ithaca, N.Y., after her initial three-year run ended last year, she knew right where she wanted to head. “My time in Ithaca was really wonderful,” said O’Gara by telephone recently from her home in Jamaica Plain. “I learned so much at the Kitchen Theatre Company. I was missing Boston, though, so my husband, Thom Dunn, and I decided to come back here to raise our family.” A Long Island, N.Y., native, O’Gara had previously spent 17 years living and working in greater Boston. During that time, O’Gara served as associate producer with the Huntington Theatre Company, and, prior to that, as an artistic associate at the New Repertory Theatre. ....

When two women, Jessie, a lawyer, and Lina, a nurse, find commonality in their new babies and adjacent backyards, they form an unlikely bond over a series of naptime coffee breaks and parental anecdotes. But with the addition of their career-oriented neighbor Adrienne, another new mom, and her husband Mitchell, the duoâs friendship and their individual conceptions are put to the test.
