Goldman Sachs has hired Sunil Khaitan and Kamna Sahni as head of financing and M&A respectively in India. Both have previously worked at Bank of America, with Khaitan as the bank s Southeast Asia head of Equity Capital Markets and Sahni as a director in India focusing on healthcare and industrials. India is the world s second busiest IPO market this year, with bankers expecting more activity amid a paucity of deals elsewhere in Asia.
Investment bankers in Mumbai have seen a 41% increase in fee income, reaching $967.5m, during the first nine months of 2023, despite a decline in deals. This is the highest fee collection by deal makers since records began in 2000. Completed M&A advisory fees rose by 34% to $362m, while equity capital market underwriting fees increased by 38% to $194.3m.
