Flash mobs reclaim square as safe space after North Vancouver stabbings

NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C.
In the square outside Lynn Valley Library, the scene of so much unexpected senseless violence and heartache two weeks ago, there is once again light, there is once again love, and there is now dancing.
“After the events of March 27, this place felt different. It didn’t feel as safe as it once did,” said Nicole Byrom, organizer of a series of dancing flash mobs on Sunday. “So, part of our purpose today was to reclaim that space, this space, as a safe place for us to be, to bring our families to.
In small, physically distanced groups, members of the community performed a short dance routine as a way to come together and demonstrate that Lynn Valley will not be intimidated by the actions of the person who randomly stabbed seven people on March 27, leaving one dead. ....

Lynn Valley Strong: Distanced 'flash mob' planned to showcase community strength after stabbings

VANCOUVER
A North Vancouver woman is hoping to inspire her community with a unique, COVID-19-safe take on a flash mob.
Nicole Byrom told CTV News Vancouver she wants to help the community show its strength and resiliency after the deadly stabbing attack at Lynn Valley Village late last month.
I just felt that we needed something to uplift us, Byrom said. I thought, What better way to lift our community up than to bring us together through music and dance?
Under normal circumstances, a flash mob at the shopping centre would help re-establish it as a community hub, rather than a place of fear and sorrow, Byrom said. ....

Lynn Valley Lions Club hosts drive-thru vigil honouring knife attack victims

VANCOUVER
One week after a man with a knife went on an unprovoked stabbing spree in and around the Lynn Valley Library, the community is coming together to honour the victims of the attack.
Organized by the Lynn Valley Lions Club, a drive thru vigil was held at Lynn Canyon Park on Saturday evening between 7:30 and 9:30.
“When there’s such a senseless act like we experienced, it’s really important for the community to be able to come out and show their solidarity,” said the club’s president Eric Miura.
The club has experience putting on large community events even a few already during the pandemic but pulling off something like this in a compressed time frame has been a monumental task involving the local branch of The Royal Canadian Legion, the District of North Vancouver and a number of local businesses. ....
