Navy veteran Sidney Finkle, who served as a Navy Aviation Ordnanceman 3rd Class during World War II, recently received the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal (NJDSM) from acting Deputy Commissioner for Veterans Affairs Walter Nall. The outdoor ceremony took place at Brandywine Living at Pennington, where Finkle, a Trenton native, has been living for seven years with his wife, Jean, to whom he has been married for 72 years. ....
100-year-old veteran receives N.J. medal for his WWII service Today 12:00 PM In all of Sidney Finkle’s 100 years, there aren’t many people he’s met that he doesn’t like. “I met a couple of people with guns I didn’t like,” he said recently, recounting wartime stories from the early 1940s, when Finkle enlisted and served as a Navy Aviation Ordnanceman 3rd Class during World War II. “Outside that, there wasn’t anybody I didn’t like,” he said. “Everybody’s nice.” The comments came at a ceremony last month when Finkle was presented with the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal (NJDSM) by Walter Nall, the state’s Acting Deputy Commissioner for Veterans Affairs. UA to offer students COVID vaccine, but no plans to require shots for fall Updated 7:51 AM; The University of Alabama will begin offering COVID-19 vaccines at no cost to all students 16 and older Monday through the student health center. So far, the UA System has not announced any plans to make vaccinations mandatory. Its campuses plan to return to traditional in-person instruction in the fall. “At this time, there is not a COVID-19 vaccination mandate for the fall 2021 semester, but the (UA System Health and Safety Task Force) strongly encourages students, faculty and staff to vaccinate,” the system said in a previous statement, before the vaccine expansion. ....
