we are in this is a mountain village, we re about 30 miles east of the epicenter. and throughout this village, ali, there are houses completely destroyed and there are some like this one you can see behind me, partially collapsed, in danger of falling down. the family who lives here has spent two nights on the street, because they do not know if they can go back into that building, whether the roof is going to come down at them at any time. this is a village of 3000 people, the locals tell us at least 40 have been killed in the quake. so ali, that is more than 1% of the population that have lost their lives here. among them, is the wife and the two daughters of a man we met a little earlier deeper in the town. he was at the graveyard, saying he doesn t know what he s going to live for anymore, having lost his family. they are part of a growing national death toll, as you said, that cracked above 2000 earlier on today. and, ali, the rescue effort is treacherously complicated
