Benee s manager Paul McKessar has issued an apology for his behaviour towards two singer-songwriters he represented, relinquishing his Aotearoa Music Award for Manager of the Year 2020.
McKessar was named in a Stuff #MeTooNZ investigation alongside Lorde s former manager Scott Machlaclan, who admitted to sexually harassing female staff and colleagues over several years. Warner Music confirmed he had been let go this week.

A management company whose roster of talent includes Benee has stood down music executive Paul McKessar amid allegations of misconduct.
In a statement from CRS Music Management s Campbell Smith this morning, the company says they have officially stood down McKessar from his role indefinitely .
Paul s actions - by any measure - fell far short of the standards experienced by CRS, our clients and the wider music community. Paul has resigned as director of CRS, the statement said.
None of this should have happened, Smith added, apologising to two artists who had come forward with allegations against McKessar. ....

Music industry professionals demand change after speaking out about its dark side

Scott Maclachlan, the man who discovered Lorde at the age of 13 and took her to international superstardom, has admitted years of harmful behaviour and said he was in intensive psychotherapy.
“I do accept the harmful impact of my past behaviour and I try every day to repair the damage and prevent it happening again,” Maclachlan told Stuff.
Maclachlan confirmed he lost his position as Senior Vice President at Warner Australasia and was banned from Warner Music’s Australian offices and gigs, after the company commissioned a sexual harassment investigation in 2018.
A former employee at the Auckland-based management company he founded, Saiko Management, said Maclachlan also sexually harassed and emotionally manipulated her while she worked for him. Maclachlan has admitted her claims are true. ....
