U.S. and Philippine Forces Conclude 36th Balikatan Exercise

QUEZON CITY, Apr. 25 Service members from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and United States Armed Forces concluded the 36th iteration of Balikatan Exercise on Friday, April 23 with a small ceremony held at the General Headquarters at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City.
“The successful conduct of this year’s Balikatan Exercise 36-2021 has definitely brought us a step closer towards our goal of capacitating our forces, and as such, will consequently contribute to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific Region,” said AFP Chief of Staff General Cirilito Sobejana. ....

'Bising' weakens into severe tropical storm

Typhoon “Bising” (international name “Surigae”) weakened into a severe tropical storm as it moved further away from the Philippines, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Friday afternoon, April 23.
The severe tropical storm was last spotted 805 kilometers (km) east-northeast of Basco, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kph.
It is moving northeast at 15 kph.

PAGASA said Bising will move generally northeast until Friday evening before turning east-southeast to east by Saturday, April 24, and eastward to east-northeastward by Sunday, April 25. ....
