David Nordlie, 87, formerly of Bemidji, passed away on December 18th, 2023 in Bonney Lake, WA. David grew up in Litchfield, MN. After graduating high school, he attended the Lutheran Bible Institute, where he met his wife, Joy. They married the following year and celebrated their 67th anniversary this past September. His academic pursuits led him to earn a Bachelor’s degree from Augsburg College, a Master’s degree from the University of Minnesota and a Doctorate from the University of Nebraska. His love of northern Minnesota led him to accept a position at Bemidji State University, where he spent 29 years as a professor of Sociology, serving as department chair most of those years. When he wasn’t teaching, he loved spending time outdoors with his family, fishing, camping and cross-country skiing.
