Russia's space agency Roscosmos on Saturday attempted a maneuver to transfer the spacecraft to the pre-landing orbit but during the operation, an "emergency situation" occurred on board the automatic station.
As of August 19, Chandrayaan's Vikram lander module is 157 km away from the Moon. On the other hand, Luna-25 is planning to make a landing on August 21 after successfully entering the lunar orbit around August 16.
Russia, on the other hand, launched its Luna 25 on August 11 but is taking a shorter route to make a touchdown on the moon's south pole, which has not been explored by any space agency.
