Winterhawks win season finale 5-3

Kishaun Gervais and Gabe Klassen scored in the 3rd period to give the Portland Winterhawks a 2-goal lead, and with captain Nick Cicek scoring the first goal in his final game, the Winterhawks won the final game of the season 5-3 over the Tri-City Americans Tuesday night at Memorial Coliseum.
Why the Winterhawks won: Big performances by players playing in or possibly playing in their final games. Cicek scored the game’s first goal, assisted by fellow 20-year-old Mannek, playing his final game. He then picked up an assist on the eventual game-winner by Gabe Klassen. Jaydon Dureau, who may be playing in the pros next season, had a goal and an assist. Gervais, whose status as one of Portland’s three 20-year-olds next season depends a lot on whether players like Dureau go to the pros, broke out of a season-long slump with two big points. KELOWNA, B.C. - It was close but the Kamloops Blazers kept their perfect record in tact with a 4-3 overtime win against the Victoria Royals in Western Hockey League play on Saturday.
Logan Stankoven delivered the game winner for the Blazers (4-0-0) 1:39 into added time. The 18-year-old forward also had a goal and two assists in regulation.
Brayden Schuurman put up two goals for the Royals (0-3-1) who are still looking for their first win of the season.
Victoria goalie Adam Evanoff stopped 48-of-52 shots and Kamloops netminder Dylan Garand tallied 16 saves. -
